Master Class

This class is intended for the curious and dedicated student and will approach more complex postures and themes. Experience with backbends, inversions at the wall and simple pranayama is encouraged.

This class ensures accessibility though it is not suitable for beginners. Expect a blend of vinyasa yoga and structural work aimed at creating clarity in asana and body mechanics.

Don’t miss the special opportunity to practice in person with longtime JPCY teacher Ame Wren. A former JP neighbor, Ame’s lifelong study has relocated her to Virginia to pursue a PhD in American Religion.

Reverse the Curse: Thoracic Mobility and Neck Stability

Are prolific in today’s culture of computer-based jobs and cell phone overuse. This workshop will focus on spinal alignment with a focus on the upper back and neck. We will start with a quick overview of the anatomy of misalignment in the upper carriage and its unfortunate effects. Then we will use asana and movement tools to "reverse the curse" and put your head back on top of your rib cage where it longs to be. Expect to leave with a better understanding of the ingredients that make up your posture, and tools for a more comfortable existence. This class will be part strength-building and correction work, part flow and part therapeutics and pranayama.

Secular Spirituality

BYS Online

This course begins with a look at the concept of "spirituality" and how it has changed over time. Then we will explore secular forms of spirituality such as meditation and mindfulness, nature and quality outdoor time, creating rituals and writing/journaling. Through readings, podcasts, reflections and peer-to-peer sharing, students will learn to inquire after forms of deeper connection in themselves and investigate how to find greater purpose in a world increasingly bereft of sacred relationships. Having a spiritual practice is linked to greater resilience and human flourishing in personal, professional and civic spaces. This course will offer new ways of understanding spirituality and an overview of related concepts.

Hands-On Adjustments Review

JP Centre Yoga

It may have been a while since you've given or received an assist in a yoga class. Now that we are re-acclimating to a new normal, as a teacher you might feel you need a refresher course on adjustments and how they can be most beneficial. As a student, you might wonder why teachers do what they do with their hands and also crave the adjustments we've all missed during the pandemic. This class is open to both students and teachers.

Cultivating Resilience

BYS Online

Recognizing and harnessing one’s nervous system is linked to resilience, wellness, and greater human flourishing. Though we are physiologically designed to handle stress, much of our daily life is not conducive to it unless reimagined. Students will learn simple and effective strategies for managing stress including breathing practices, meditation, postural awareness, mindfulness exercises, methods for detecting an oncoming stress response and how to employ the science of habit formation.

This course includes a basic overview of the neurophysiology of the human nervous system and provides a deep dive into the science and function of stress.  Students will learn how stress impacts performance, concentration, and interpersonal relations. In addition, this course will give students the knowledge and practical skills to engage with their stress response and transform how their mind and body is affected by it.

Registration is not currently open for select workshops above. To learn more or express interest, feel free to contact us.
